Directions to the starting point of the race (Pavilion #3) FROM SOUTH 611 (WARRINGTON): Take 611 around Doylestown- Exit at Route 313 - Turn left (west). Proceed 2.2 miles, through Fountainville intersection. Turn left on New Galena Road, (AA Storage units on far left corner, Stout's Market and Gingerbread Square on near left corner). Continue on New Galena Rd. for approx. 1 1/2 mile. Turn left into Peace Valley Park. Go approx 1 1/4 (go through two stop signs) until you see pavilion 3/4 on your left. FROM NORTH 611: Follow Main Street signs to traffic light at intersection of Route 313. Turn right (west). Proceed 2 1/2 miles, through Fountainville intersection. Turn left on New Galena Road (AA Storage units on far left corner, Stout's Market and Gingerbread Square on near left corner) Continue on New Galena Rd. for approx. 1 1/2 mile. Turn left into Peace Valley Park. Go approx 1 1/4 (go through two stop signs) until you see pavilion 3/4 on your left. FROM SOUTH 202 OR 152 (CHALFONT): From South 202 turn left at main traffic light (Route 152 North). Travel approx. 1/8 mile and turn right at the light onto Park Ave. Proceed to first stop sign. Go straight. At second stop sign, go straight again. Travel approx. ? mile to the Park entrance on the right. Turn right into the park and continue for approx. 1/3 mile to pavilion 3&4 which will be on the right. FROM NORTH 202 (NEW HOPE): Go south on Route 202 through Buckingham to intersection of Route 313 (Swamp Rd.). Turn right. Continue through Cross Keys intersection., proceed 2 1/2 miles, through Fountainville intersection. Turn left at New Galena Rd. (AA Storage storage units on far left corner, Gingerbread Square on near left corner) Continue on New Galena Rd. for approx. 1 1/2 mile. Turn left into Peace Valley Park. Go approx 1 1/4 (go through two stop signs) until you see pavilion 3/4 on your left. FROM WEST 313 (QUAKERTOWN): Travel east through Dublin for approx. 2 1/2 miles to New Galena Rd. (AA Storage units on near right corner, Stout's Market and Gingerbread Square on far right corner) Turn right. Continue on New Galena Rd. for approx. 1 1/2 mile. Turn left into Peace Valley Park. Go approx 1 1/4 (go through two stop signs) until you see pavilion 3/4 on your left. FROM PERKASIE - SELLERSVILLE: Take Ridge Rd. (Route 563) to Route 313. Proceed as below. FROM SOUDERTON - (SILVERDALE): Take Route 113 to Route 313. Turn right and travel through Dublin for approx. 2 1/2 miles to New Galena Rd. AA Storage units on near right corner, Stout's Market and Gingerbread Square on far right corner) Turn right. Continue on New Galena Rd. for approx. 1 1/2 mile. Turn left into Peace Valley Park. A day of fun & education presented for our members, volunteers, visitors and supporters! • SILENT AUCTION - a diverse selection of items do-nated by area businesses and individual supporters • DISCOVERY TRAILS - answer the questions and enter the drawing for a basket of goodies • FACE PAINTING • BIG BUBBLES • ALIEN DISCOVERY AREA • TOO GOOD TO TOSS SALE - gently used items for sale • LUNCH AVAILABLE (11:30-3:00) Proceeds from the day's events benefit the education programs at Peace Valley Nature Center. The Friends of Peace Valley Nature Center Invite You To Join Us on Our Second Annual SOLAR TOUR When: Saturday, October 9th, 2010, 9:30 am-4 pm Advanced registration required. No day of registrations. The Details: • Listen to a brief lecture and then travel in a sunny yellow school bus to solar homes in the Central Bucks region and be enlightened on the power of solar and alternative energies! • Numerous solar/alternative energy vendors will be on hand pre-trip and at lunch. • Box lunch will be provided. Choice of meat or vegan. Cost: $ 25 per person includes Transportation and lunch. Mail check made out to "The Friends of PVNC" to Peace Valley Nature Center, 170 Chapman Road, Doylestown, PA 18901 Attn: Solar Tour or register at the nature center Tuesday-Sunday from 9 am-5 pm. Meet: At Peace Valley Nature Center's solar building at 9:30 am sharp. Parking will be in the overflow field unless otherwise noted. NATURALIST ACTIVITIES BIRD WALKS -- Saturdays, 8:00 - 10:00 am -- $2 donation suggested. Summer morning, what a great time to get outdoors and go birding. Join birders of the area for an informative walk. All levels of experience welcome. Hone your skills or learn new skills. SINGLES WALKS -- Saturdays, 10:30 am - 12 noon September 11, 25, October 23, November 6, 20 -- $2 donation suggested. Join Director Naturalist Craig Olsen for informative walks focusing on the natural history and seasonal natural events at PVNC. Great outdoor hikes for singles of all ages. SUNDAY NATURALIST FORAYS -- NO FEE, Outdoor Adventure for explorers of all ages • October, 3 - Bountiful Bugs Grab the bug boxes and sweep nets and we will explore the fascinating lives of insects, where they are, who they are and what do they do? • October, 10 - Fruits, Pods, and Packages: SEEDS We depend on the bounty of plants for our food. Let's go look for seeds and fruits that the animals of Peace Valley need • October, 24 - Tree's Colors and Gifts The beauty and majesty of fall foliage. We shall discover the diversity of this seasonal wonder • October, 31 - Birds in Autumn- Where Are They? Who is staying around for the winter? Where are they going? • November, 7 - What's That? - Who goes there? We shall hike the trails looking for autumn changes. What is happening as the season changes HARVEST MOON WALK & CAMPFIRE -- Thursday, September 23, 8:30 pm Inclement weather cancels the event. Experience one of the brightest and most spectacular full moons of the year and take a walk in the moonlight, discovering what's going on. We will return to join together for a warm pleasing campfire and enjoy toasty marshmallows! Limited use of flashlights! (Please) $5 ($3 members) STAR WATCH -- Friday, October 8, 7:30 pm Join the Bux-Mont Astronomical Association to look at what's happening in the night sky. Star Watch will be held in the field off Chapman Road .From the parking lot walk towards the bridge and the entrance to the field is on the left before the bridge. Cloudy or rainy weather cancels the event. NO FEE SPIDER'S TEA PARTY -- Sunday, October 17 -- 1:30 pm -- No Fee -- Bring along your favorite stuffed pal and join us for tea (juice) and crumpets (snack food). We will listen to some creepy stories and tales read by Mrs. Spider. We will then go out and search for some real spiders and their relatives GAGGLES OF GHOSTS AND GHOULS -- Friday, October 22, 6:30-9:00 Led by our somewhat Ghoulish teacher naturalists, you will be led on an eerie walk through the trails of PVNC. Along the way you may meet some "creatures" that will expose some of the myths about the creepy and frightening nature of cats, rats, bats, snakes, ghosts and other things that go bump in the night. After the walk, relax at our warming fire with toasty, gooey marshmallows Walks are ongoing throughout the evening. No pre-registration necessary. Groups are welcome! $5 ($2 members). |
