NATURALIST ACTIVITIES BIRD WALKS -- Saturdays, 7:00 - 9:00 am -- $2 donation suggested Summer morning, what a great time to get outdoors and go birding. Join birders of the area for an informative walk. All levels of experience welcome. Hone your skills or learn new skills. SINGLES WALKS -- Saturdays, 10:00 am - 12 noon June 6, July 18, August 1, 15, 29 -- $2 donation suggested Director Naturalist Craig Olsen will lead singles of all ages for informative walks. Summer is a fine time to enjoy Peace Valley. Bring lunch for after the walk SINGLES CAMPFIRE -- Friday June 5, 8:30 pm -- $5 ($3 members) Join Craig Olsen for an evening experience of fun and fellowship. STAR WATCH -- Friday June 19, 9:30 pm -- August 13 ~ 9:00 pm -- NO FEE Join the Bux-Mont Astronomical Association to look at the Summer happenings in the night sky. Star Watch will be held in the field off Chapman Road .From the parking lot walk towards the bridge, the entrance to the field is on the left before the bridge. Cloudy or rainy weather cancels the event. CRITTER PROWLS -- Wednesday evening walks for all ages -- 7:00 pm -- No Fee June 24 -- Dusk Denizens Join us as we search for who is out and about in the evening. Tracks & signs will provide our map of the walk. July 22 -- Stream Search Sloshing into the steam will yield some of the critters that call the cool water home. Crayfish, water pennies and more will be the object of our search. August 5 -- Spiders & Insects We shall grab the nets and bug boxes and search for these beneficial inhabitants. Join us and we shall see what we can find. MOONLIGHT WALK -- Wednesday June 10, 9:00 pm -- $2 donation suggested Enjoy Peace Valley at night! Summer sounds, sights and smells are not to be missed. Evening critters bring the night to life. Take time to take a walk.Limited use of flashlights! (Please) FIREFLY FROLIC -- Friday June 26, 8:30 pm -- Rain date June 27, 8:30 pm -- NO FEE BUT ADAVANCE REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED (limit of 25) Search for this amazing summer light emitting beetle. The flash of light signals the search for a mate, learn more about this summer phenomenon. A hike and activities along with the search, capture and investigation of these fine insects rounds out a wonderful way to spend a summer evening. POLLINATOR BLITZ -- Saturday June 27, 1:00 pm -- NO FEE Search for your insect ID book, bring it along with your family and join us as we search the fields, thickets and forests for insects. Data gathered will be used in our species index. Great bug catching, a fine day and plenty of insects are a recipe for a fun and exciting day. There will be an opportunity to make a pollinator house to take home, you will drill the holes and assemble your house. Fee for the Pollinator house- $5 each. BAT BONANZA -- Friday July 10, 8:30 pm -- Rain Date Saturday July 11 -- NO FEE BUT ADVANCE REGISTRATION REQUIRED (LIMIT 25 BAT SEEKERS) Join us as we search the night skies for glimpses and the sounds of these beneficial magnificent creatures. Activities will highlight the bat’s abilities and help us understand and appreciate these flying mammals. SUGAR MOTHING -- Friday August 21, 8:30-9:30 pm -- Rain date August 22 -- NO FEE BUT ADAVANCE REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED (limit 25) We will mix up some sweet goo and "paint" some trees to entice the moths to our "bait". We will learn about the habits and habitats of these insect denizens of night. With their wonderful adaptations they are not often seen or appreciated. Join us in our quest for the different moths that may be out and about on a warm summer evening. NATURAL HISTORY TRIPS Advance Registration & payment required: Fee: $13 ($9 members) -- Fee not refundable after one week prior to trip. Checks payable to Friends of PVNC FOSSIL HUNTING -- Shark River Park, Monmouth County, NJ Wednesday June 17, 8:00am -- 4:00 pm Shark River is known for it's prolific fossils. Fossils of Eocene (36-56 mya) may be found. Major fossil types include shark teeth, fish, and mammal remains. Collection of fossils is limited to trowels with a maximum blade of 6 inches and small screens with an 18 inch square maximum, a child's sand sifter for the beach is an excellent choice. Bring a container for your fossils. An old mayonnaise or plastic jar with a lid works great. No Glass! Be prepared to wade into the stream for collecting. Dress accordingly. Bring a lunch! We will carpool to the site. ENVIRONMENTAL GEOLOGY TOUR OF BUCKS COUNTY Saturday July 25, 9:30 - 2:30 Join us for a tour through Bucks County to visit our varied and interesting ecology. The focus of the tour will be the interactions of humans and geology: How geology affected early settlement of the County and how it still affects our lives. We hope to visit a water supply well, sewage spray irrigation field, quarry, Superfund Site and sinkhole. The tour will be led by our local Environmental Hydrogeologist, Phil Getty. The day will begin with a brief lecture on the geology of Bucks County, followed by a car-pool trip to the various places of interest. Bring a lunch! Checks payable to Friends of PVNC GARRETT MT., NORTH CENTRAL, N.J. Sunday, May 17th, 6:00 am - 5:00 pm We will try a new location to Garrett Mt. in north central N.J., a hotspot for migrants. It traditionally gets 20+ species of warblers in migration, along with other numerous songbirds on their way north to nest. There might be a lot of walking as we search around the lake.
