Internship Opportunities

Internship Description

The Friends of Peace Valley Nature Center offers a paid summer internship to qualified applicants interested in environmental education, interpretation, and parks and recreation. The 750-acre facility in historic Doylestown, PA offers 14 miles of hiking trails, various native habitats, a public nature center, robust education programs, and is a designated Important Bird Area (IBA).


Interns work closely with PVNC staff to receive in-depth training in: 
• Public education and interpretation
• Trail maintenance 
• Visitor services


Field trips to our sister nature centers are offered to round out intern’s understanding of how public nature centers engage their communities. Interns will complete an individual research or work project. 


Time Period




Summer 2024:    12 weeks starting mid-June to late August

Internship Responsibilities

 

  • Observe then teach programs for students pre-school through middle school.
  • Observe and team-teach a family program.
  • Complete and present a project (such as a new display, or design and present an innovative program).
  • Write a newsletter article on a natural history topic.
  • Attend at least one Friends of Peace Valley Nature Center board meeting.
  • Keep a daily log of events and reactions.
  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Assist Environmental Education staff as needed.
  • Assist with miscellaneous nature center responsibilities.


Requirements:

Applicants must have completed at least 2 years of college, or the equivalent, with background and a strong interest in environmental education, interpretation, and/or related environmental studies. Applicants should be capable of rigorous outdoor work including lifting, digging, and sustained walking. 


2024 Application Information

Applications were accepted through February 23, 2024. Initial screening of the applications will take place in mid-to lateFebruary and will be based upon the written application. Qualified applicants will be invited for a personal interview or will be interviewed by telephone if distance prohibits a visit. Final decisions will be made after all interviews are completed. As soon as commitments are finalized, all applicants will be advised of their status.
