How many butterflies, moths, and caterpillars are hiding in plain sight around you? Join our interactive and special two-week Butterfly & Moth Goosechase and turn your next outdoor adventure into a community science mission!
Explore parks, trails, neighborhoods, and other natural spaces as you complete challenges featuring butterflies, moths, caterpillars, and the host plants they depend on. When a mission calls for an observation, use iNaturalist to photograph and document what you find.
Your discoveries are more than just points in a challenge. Observations submitted to iNaturalist become part of a growing collection of biodiversity data that can help researchers, conservationists, and land managers better understand where species occur and how their populations and seasonal activity change over time.
No experience? No problem! The challenge is designed for all ages and experience levels. Along the way, you'll sharpen your observation and identification skills, discover fascinating relationships between insects and plants, and start noticing details in nature you may have walked past before.

What is Find Your Wild?
As part of our anniversary celebration, Peace Valley Nature Center has launched "Find Your Wild," a brand-new interactive scavenger hunt for all ages beginning April 1st and continuing throughout the year!
- All features of the app are completely free
- Missions are designed to help you explore nature, learn something new, and create lasting memories
- Play as an individual or as a team
- Most missions can be completed anywhere in nature, some must be completed at Peace Valley Nature Center
- New missions will be released for each season and at the end of the season, a grand prize winner will be selected (more information on schedule and prizes below)
- Participants earn prizes along the way, and are entered to win a grand prize!

New Missions Launch:
New missions will be released for each season and at the end of the season, a grand prize winner will be selected!
- Spring: Wednesday, April 1st, 2026 – Monday, June 20th, 2026
- Summer: Sunday, June 21st, 2026 – Monday, September 21st, 2026
- Fall: Tuesday, September 22nd, 2026 – Sunday, December 20th, 2026
- Winter: Monday, December 21st, 2026 – Sunday, February 28th, 2027
