Nature Play Zone
Where imagination and nature come together
Children learn best by exploring, creating, and discovering the world around them. The Nature Play Zone encourages unstructured outdoor play using natural materials such as sticks, logs, stones, pinecones, leaves, and tree cookies. These hands-on experiences help build creativity, problem-solving abilities, confidence, and fine motor skills while fostering a lifelong appreciation for nature.
Unlike a traditional playground, the Nature Play Zone invites children to become architects, explorers, artists, and scientists—using their imaginations to create their own adventures in a safe, natural setting.
Located just off the Evergreen Trail, the Nature Play Zone is open daily from dawn until dusk and is free to enjoy with your family.
Nature Play Activities:
- Build Like a Bird – Construct a nest using natural materials.
- Leaping Lily Pads – Test your balance and coordination.
- Tree Cookies – Explore tree rings and woodland discoveries.
- Stacking Stones – Create sculptures while learning patience and balance.
- Dig & Discover – Unearth hidden natural treasures.
- Shell Search – Hunt for shells and learn about aquatic habitats.
- Loose Parts - Activate your imagination using natural materials.
To help protect wildlife and provide a peaceful experience for all visitors, pets are not permitted in the Nature Play Zone or on the adjacent Nature Center trails.
Come play, explore, imagine—and discover the joy of nature together.
"Time in nature is not a luxury. It is a necessity. And we must give our children time to explore, discover, and get to know the world, which brings endless delights and lessons that never cease." - Ainsley Arment
